FIFA | Maart a Puskas award nominee?

Yusuf Maart, a midfielder for Kaizer Chiefs, scored a wonder goal in the Soweto Derby, and FIFA has suggested that he could be a candidate for the Puskas award.

Maart, 27, had an impressive debut for the Chiefs by scoring the game’s lone goal against the Orlando Pirates in the first derby matchup since the Covid-19 pandemic.

Before the mid-season break for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the goal put Amakhosi in fourth place, ahead of Pirates, and the strike may have more significance than just bragging rights.

The world football governing body took to social media to drop a potential hint for the upcoming award ceremony during the social media uproar over the stunning long-range attempt from well within his own half.
