Dominant Verstappen on pole ahead of Sainz at Australian GP

In a stunning display of dominance, three-time world champion Max Verstappen secured his third consecutive pole position of the season at the Australian Grand Prix, setting the stage for a potential record-breaking 10th consecutive win.

The flying Dutchman’s exceptional performance at Melbourne’s Albert Park under overcast skies saw him outshine his competitors and claim the top spot on the grid.

Verstappen’s superb qualifying effort was complemented by Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz, who made a remarkable comeback to secure second place on the grid shortly after recovering from appendicitis surgery.

The Red Bull driver expressed his satisfaction with his performance, citing that both of his laps in the final qualifying session felt strong and smooth.

With a blistering lap time of one minute 15.915, Verstappen clinched pole position with a 0.270-second advantage over Sainz.

His Red Bull teammate, Sergio Perez, will start from third place, alongside a surprise fourth-place qualifier, Lando Norris of McLaren.

The 2022 Melbourne Grand Prix winner, Charles Leclerc, secured fifth place, with local hero Oscar Piastri of McLaren starting sixth.

Meanwhile, seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton faced disappointment as he missed out on qualifying for the final session, leaving him in 11th place on the grid.

The stage is set for an exhilarating race as Verstappen leads the pack with a formidable lineup of competitors vying for victory at the Australian Grand Prix.
