Ditched cop killed his ex-wife and her new boyfriend after seeing them together

A North West police officer faces a lengthy prison sentence after being convicted of the double murder of his estranged wife and her boyfriend.

Warrant Officer Annius Mmutle, 49, pleaded guilty to the charges in the Zeerust Magistrate’s Court, sending shockwaves through the community.

The tragic incident occurred on 14 March 2023, when Mmutle fatally shot his estranged wife, Motshegwa Mmutle, 44, and her boyfriend, Katlego Selokwane, 33.

“He shot his estranged wife… and her boyfriend,” confirmed Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) spokesperson Phaladi Shuping, underscoring the brutal nature of the crime.

Following the incident, the case was promptly handed over to IPID due to its classification as a “death as a result of police action.”

Mmutle, stationed at Nietverdint SAPS, has remained in custody since his arrest, denied bail due to the severity of the crime.

This conviction comes shortly after another disturbing case where Sergeant Monday Shimondzo Ngobeni received a 20-year sentence for the murder of his girlfriend in June 2022.

Both cases highlight a worrying trend of gender-based violence perpetrated by law enforcement officers.

As the court prepares for sentencing on 2 July, the community awaits the outcome, hoping for a sentence that reflects the gravity of the crime and delivers justice for the victims and their families.
