DA Wants This Minister To Step Down

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has urged Tourism Minister Lindiwe Sisulu to resign if she does not wish to attend meetings of the Tourism Portfolio Committee of Parliament. They argue that she should take her position seriously.

The committee called Sisulu to appear in person to address unresolved issues after she missed four meetings in a row. No apology or justification was given, it is said.

Sisulu must quit if she is unable to perform her duties, according to the DA, who also promised to hold her accountable.

“She must be honest with South Africans and quit if she is unable or unwilling to operate responsibly in her capacity as minister of tourism.”

DA guns for Sisulu

To be a minister was “an honour”.

Serving South Africans shouldn’t be a secondary afterthought.she should take her obligations seriously.

Sisulu referred to the summons as “unfortunate and unnecessary” and stated that she respected the committee.

“I want it known that I respect the portfolio committee’s function as an extension of the parliamentary oversight body. I have always supported the committee’s mission and efforts, and I will do so going forward.

In order to help the tourism portfolio committee carry out its job, she promised to appeal the committee’s decision and “would in future appear before the portfolio committee at an appropriate time to both parties.”
