The Joburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) recently made an arrest in connection with a stolen motorbike.
A 27-year-old man was found riding a motorbike that had been reported stolen, and he was subsequently detained at Sandton SAPS.
According to Superintendent Xolani Fihla, spokesperson for the JMPD, the arrest took place on Saturday, January 6, 2024.
Officers from the Tactical Response Unit received information about a stolen white Bigboy motorcycle that was being sought by the OR Tambo International SAPS.
They then proceeded to patrol the Sunninghill area.
While on patrol, the officers spotted a motorcycle that matched the description of the stolen one on Nanyuki Road in Sunninghill.
They stopped the motorbike and questioned the rider about how he acquired it.
However, he failed to provide a reasonable answer, leading to his arrest for possession of stolen property.
It was later revealed that the suspect was on his way from making goods deliveries when he was intercepted by the police.
The recovered motorbike was wrapped with Checkers Sixty60 grocery delivery app branding.
The arrest serves as a reminder of the importance of reporting stolen property and providing accurate descriptions to law enforcement agencies.
Superintendent Fihla emphasized the role of community members in assisting the police in their efforts to combat crime.
He stated, “We urge the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities or possessions. Working together, we can help ensure the safety and security of our communities.”
The JMPD continues to work tirelessly to apprehend individuals involved in criminal activities and recover stolen property.
