The Daily Voice reports that the perpetrator of this heinous act, her ex-boyfriend Baxolele Baja, took his own life after committing the gruesome murder.
The heart-wrenching incident unfolded when Baja, desperate to reconcile with Phelokazi, resorted to violence when she refused his advances.
In a poignant account of the events leading up to the tragedy, Phelokazi’s brother, Siphosethu Fumbatha, shared the harrowing details of the fatal encounter.
Recounting the tumultuous history between Phelokazi and Baja, he revealed, “They were in a relationship and they had a child and they broke up.”
Despite Baja moving on with another woman, he harbored hopes of rekindling his romance with Phelokazi, who firmly rejected his pleas.
On the fateful day of the incident, Siphosethu recalls hearing commotion outside but initially dismissed it as distant noise. Little did he know that within moments, his sister’s life would be cruelly taken by the man she once loved.
“He managed to convince her to go somewhere so they could talk. She agreed, they didn’t even leave the yard when he strangled her, punched her and then stabbed her in the ear and then cut her throat. She had a deep gash in the neck,” he lamented.
The community’s swift intervention upon witnessing the violent altercation underscores the collective shock and horror that gripped those who bore witness to the tragedy.
