Boxing South Africa’s money man killed in a brazen hit on his driveway
According to police spokesperson Lt-Col Mavela Masondo, the shooting occurred around 10:45 pm, with the victim succumbing to his injuries upon arrival at the hospital.
The motive behind the attack, carried out by two assailants who fled the scene in a white Renault, remains unclear at this stage.
The shocking incident unfolded shortly after Sports Minister Zizi Kodwa’s announcement of measures to stabilize local professional boxing, including appointing acting CEO Mandla Ntlanganiso as the accounting authority in the absence of a board.
The organization had been grappling with instability following the interdiction of the executive appointed by Kodwa in December, leaving the sport in a precarious position.
Kenneth Mamosadi, who had ascended to the role of CFO after starting as a finance manager at BSA, faced significant financial challenges due to the organization’s depleted resources following the departure of the previous executive.
The department of sport, arts & culture had to intervene to ensure salaries were paid, albeit with a delay, underscoring the financial strain faced by the regulatory body.
The developments within BSA have raised concerns about the future of professional boxing in South Africa, with the outgoing board facing scrutiny over financial matters and unresolved issues with promoters.
