Billionaire Patrice Motsepe for ANC presidency?

A branch of the ANC in Limpopo has nominated billionaire businessman Patrice Motsepe to run against President Cyril Ramaphosa and former health minister Dr. Zweli Mkhize for the role of ANC president.
Motsepe was the only candidate for president who was “not seen to be corrupt,” according to the branch of the campaign Unity 2022.

The billionaire who is the president of the Confederation of African Football is unlikely to accept the candidacy from the Malekeng Magane branch in ward 12 Fetakgomo-Tubatse in Sekhukhune, but if he did raise his hand, it would make for an interesting elective conference.

Lindiwe Sisulu, the minister of tourism, and Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, the minister of cooperative governance and traditional affairs, are also running.

The Limpopo ANC provincial executive committee (PEC), which has approved Ramaphosa for the top position, will be regarded as being opposed by the branch.

Branch deputy chairperson Emmanuel Makgoga, however, disputed the PEC’s claims in a statement to Independent Media yesterday, claiming that the PEC was not being genuine in the lead-up to the elective conference.

Together with KwaZulu-Natal, the ANC in Limpopo is opposing the step-aside resolution at the conference. Mkhize is supported by KZN to lead the party.

We have comrades urging other branches to support Motsepe in every province, and we have written and spoken to him. He neither agreed nor denied that he would stand.

“We don’t anticipate a yes right away. “Not even the president in office, Ramaphosa, has raised his hand to indicate that he is standing,” stated Makgoga.

He asserted that he did not think Limpopo would support Ramaphosa because they had sided with KZN on all other matters. They “never [will] vote for Ramaphosa,” he declared.

Billionaire

It was impossible to contact Motsepe, a billionaire, for comment.

Some wards in KZN have nominated Mkhize as president, but nominated Water and Sanitation Minister Senzo Mchunu as his deputy.

Mchunu, a member of Ramaphosa’s faction, is viewed as a unifying candidate in KwaZulu-Natal.

The Sam Ntuli branch in ward 54 of Ekurhuleni has nominated Mkhize as president, Mmamoloko Kubayi as vice president, Supra Mahumapelo as secretary-general, Nomvula Mokonyane as deputy secretary-general, Dlamini Zuma as national chairperson, and Mzwandile Masina as treasurer, among other new names for the contest.

Numerous people from various branches have mentioned Carl Niehaus and Bathabile Dlamini, the former leader of the ANC Women’s League.

Ronald Lamola, Thabang Makwetla, Robert McBride, David Makhura, Nkosindiphile Xhakaza, and Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams are additional desired NEC members.

Dlamini stated that as nominations were still being made, she did not want to make many comments.

Niehaus said: “It is not the only nomination. I was nominated in several other branches, including ward 117, Greater Johannesburg. I have received nominations from numerous branches in all nine provinces of the nation. The faith that my ANC brothers have in me humbles me. I’m ready to accept the nominations and to work for the cause.

Additionally, Mkhize, Paul Mashatile, Nomvula Mokonyane, Phumulo Masualle, Dlamini Zuma, and Andile Lungisa were nominated by Ward 117 Greater Johannesburg for the positions of president, vice president, secretary-general, and treasurer.
