Billiat did not want to join Chiefs at first
Khama Billiat, the Zimbabwean striker, did not want to play for Kaizer Chiefs as reported by undisclosed sources. However, Amakhosi demonstrated financial commitment and ultimately made an offer that convinced him to choose Soweto as his destination.
The football world was surprised to learn that the 33-year-old had chosen not to renew his contract with Chiefs in July of 2023. This seemingly reflects his initial intention to pursue a career elsewhere.
Billiat had hoped for a move in the Middle East or North Africa. The striker had offers from Turkey, Egypt and two unnamed clubs from South Africa.
According to sources
“Khama Billiat didn’t want to go to Chiefs in the first place and had to be convinced to sign. He had other plans and wanted to leave for overseas when he exited Sundowns but the offer that was made to him by Chiefs was too good to reject,” said the source to Soccer Laduma’s Siya crew.
“It was important that he was advised correctly and convinced to reconsider his decision. It was for his own good.”
Although Billiat has not formally declared his retirement from the game, ongoing discussions are conjecturing about his next destination in the field.
