Arthur Zwane plays down relegation fears for AmaZulu

AmaZulu FC co-coach Arthur Zwane has dismissed worries about relegation, stating that the team is not in danger despite their slow start to the season.

AmaZulu achieved their first win of the Betway Premiership season with a 2-0 victory over Chippa United at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Tuesday night, moving from 16th to 15th place in the league with three points.

Zwane acknowledged the team’s poor start has led to concerns about relegation, but he believes it’s too soon to think about that, as there are still many matches left to play.

“I wouldn’t say (this win) is a turning point; it’s still early,” Zwane said. “People often say we are fighting relegation, but I don’t see it that way.

“How can you fight relegation when you still have 25 games left? There’s a lot to play for. You only start worrying about relegation when there are just five games left, in my opinion.

“It also depends on how other teams are performing and the gap between us and those in the relegation zone before we can really talk about it.

“Right now, we’re not focused on relegation; we’re concentrating on improving the team, doing better, and competing because we’re in this league to challenge.”

AmaZulu’s next match is against Richards Bay FC at King Zwelithini Stadium on 30 November, with kick-off at 15:30.
