Arsenal survive painful flashbacks as they rebuild title race with Manchester City
Manchester City kept their title hopes alive with a hard-fought victory over Nottingham Forest on Sunday, while Arsenal edged out Tottenham in a nerve-wracking derby, setting the stage for a thrilling climax to the Premier League season.
A three-way title race has narrowed to a duel between Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City and Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, who are eager to redeem themselves after last season’s disappointing finish.
Arsenal currently sit atop the table with 80 points from 35 games, one point ahead of City.
However, Guardiola’s side has a game in hand, keeping them in a strong position to retain their crown.
Arsenal laid down an early marker in the North London derby, storming to a 3-0 lead over Tottenham at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Despite a late scare, the Gunners held on for a 3-2 victory, temporarily extending their lead at the top to four points.
City, meanwhile, faced a tough challenge from a resolute Nottingham Forest side fighting to avoid relegation.
Although not at their clinical best, Guardiola’s team managed to secure a 2-0 victory with goals from Josko Gvardiol and Erling Haaland.
Gvardiol headed in a Kevin De Bruyne corner to give City the lead after 30 minutes, while Haaland doubled the advantage in the second half, again from a De Bruyne assist.
