Actor Bonko Khoza becomes a serial killer

For Bonko Khoza, the experience of playing a diabolical psychopath in Showmax’s new thriller series, Red Ink, was both intriguing and challenging.

The 32-year-old actor, known for his role as Mqhele Zulu in The Wife and Jabz in Necktie Youth, has been steadily solidifying his reputation as a strong emerging force in the industry.

Khoza reveals that he has been working hard and sowing a lot of seeds in recent years.

“I’ve been able to do a lot of work that I’m proud of and people will see most of it this year,” he says.

One of the projects that he is particularly excited about is Red Ink, where he plays the leading role of a serial killer named Napoleon Dingiswayo.

Assuming the role of Napoleon was a challenging task for Khoza. He describes his character as a classic psychopath, in stark contrast to his previous role as the over-the-top Mqhele.

To prepare for the role, Khoza had to change his diet for his prison scenes on the show.

However, what made the experience even more challenging for Khoza was the timing.

Just two weeks after the birth of his five-month-old baby girl, Amahuboamahle, he had to immerse himself in the mind of a woman killer and rapist.

Balancing between reality and role-playing was a tricky experience for the actor.

“I always give out so much of myself when acting, so I had to make sure I do justice in embodying and humanising this character to my utmost ability,” Khoza shares.

Despite the difficulties, he is proud of the work he has put into the role and hopes that audiences will appreciate his portrayal of Napoleon.

As Red Ink premieres next month, fans of Khoza can look forward to seeing a different side of the actor.
