Amazulu fires four players

Later this month, when the Dstv premiership season is scheduled to resume, AmaZulu has let go of Sibusiso Magaqa, Matarr Ceesay, Butho Ncube, and Samkelo Mgwazela.

Since Amazulu is also back in training for the restart of the season, Maqaga and Mgwazela have already been spotted wearing Royal AM’s uniform.

It is unclear how Ceesay and Ncube will advance their careers, whether they would return to their native Gambia and Zimbabwe, respectively, or hunt for openings in South Africa.

Ncube joined Usuthu before the 2016–17 campaign, but he was sent home after the club failed to register him, hence he did not participate in a single game last season.

Usuthu battled to complete his registration since they were considering enrolling him as a local player because he had been in this nation for more than five years to be eligible for the PRP (permanent residence permit).

The player who last kicked the ball with Usuthu was against Maritzburg United in the final match of the 2020–21 season under coach Benni McCarthy, but the club has other plans now that they have let him go.

McCarthy allowed other players to play, such as Siphiwe Tshabalala and Tsepo Masilela, even though Usuthu was already certain to finish second in the DStv Premiership.

Ceesay, who joined the team at the start of the 2021/22 season, has only appeared in one game for Usuthu so far this year, a shocking 2-1 loss to Chippa United that led to Brandon Truter’s dismissal.

In total, throughout the course of nearly two seasons with the club, the Gambian international, who was also plagued by injuries, played in only 15 appearances across all competitions.

Usuthu is preparing to decide on captain Makhehleni Makhaula’s future. The 33-year-old aggressive midfielder’s contract will expire after the current campaign. He transferred from Highlands Park to them at the start of the 2020–21 campaign.

Although the former Free State Stars midfielder has been a key component of Usuthu’s recent success, the team has yet to say if they intend to keep him past this season.
