Traffic officers dramatically kidnapped on R103
Two traffic officers were kidnapped and one police member was injured during a shootout with armed suspects.
According to information on hand, two female traffic officers were allegedly busy on the R103 on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at around 11:10 when they stopped a speeding car. Two other cars joined the one that was stopped. A gun was aimed at one of the officers as she approached the suspects and was told to get close to the car.
When another traffic officer saw what was happening and attempted to respond, they were both ordered to approach the suspects while guns were being brandished at them. As soon as the two traffic officers were loaded into the car, the suspects left the area with them.
After receiving information and seeing the three suspicious vehicles, the Vrede Stock Theft police acted quickly, and a gunfight followed. A female constable from the SAPS was shot in the right leg, however, the suspects were able to escape the scene by boarding their cars.
The vehicles were spotted moving in the direction of Walkerville in Gauteng after a lookout was issued. The two traffic officers were disarmed and dumped close to Walkerville in the middle of the bushes. They were located uninjured after police were alerted to their whereabouts.
There were numerous bullet holes in one Vrede SAPS Stock Theft Police car. The suspects, who are still at large, were seen driving a grey Toyota Fortuner, a white Audi, and a gold Volvo. The suspects are dangerous and armed.
An attempted murder and an armed robbery are both under investigation by Vrede Police.
More personnel were called in by the provincial commissioner to work around the clock and without ceasing until these suspects were apprehended.
