Ramaphosa gave kisses and hugs during campaign

Cyril Ramaphosa, the president of the ANC, gave away kisses on Saturday. This was during his party’s Letsema campaign in the Northern Cape.

Kisses and hugs from the President

Numerous senior citizens lined up to kiss the first statesman as they waited in line to attend their friend’s 82nd birthday party.

The joyful Ramaphosa did not let them down, giving the old women loving hugs and lip kisses.

One woman called out to Ramaphosa while tying her lips together, “Come Mr. Ramaphosa,” and he complied.

He had made a stop in the Galaeshewe community at Ouma Martha Louw’s 82nd birthday party, where she had “coincidentally” recently acquired a house from the Provincial government.

Speaking to the crowd, most of whom were wearing ANC clothing, Ramaphosa noted that Ouma Louw had been one of those who had discussed their hardship and the housing issues they faced when he had previously visited the province.

Ramaphosa congratulated the province government for giving her a house and added, “And that affected my heart, as it touches my heart with many other people who do not have houses.”

He said that the Northern Cape government had given Gogo Louw dignity by building a home for her.

“Today she has dignity, and we sincerely thank you because it demonstrates that we as a government do pay attention.

“We want to do this for a lot of people across the nation, and I realize that some of you here still don’t have your houses, but I want you to never give up hope,” he said. Never give up because your government is here and we are listening. Today we listened to Mama Louw and what a wonderful house she has.

He wished Ouma Louw a happy birthday and joined her as she cut her cake before moving on to other scheduled events for the day, which included a cleanup effort and a walkabout.

Ramaphosa and the ANC

Ramaphosa seemed unconcerned and undisturbed by the impending internal struggle for leadership when the ANC hosts its elective conference in December.

Although he has not said whether he will run for a second term as president, he has gotten support from several provincial organizations. Certain branches across the nation have also formally nominated him during their meetings.

Former health minister Zweli Mkhize and Cogta minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma are challenging him, with the former receiving support from KwaZulu-provincial Natal’s government.

Ramaphosa spoke with locals during his walkabout in Kimberley, listening to their issues and promising to address them.

Ramaphosa has not explicitly urged ANC members to nominate him for a second term, despite his remark that he “welcomes any contestation” during a quick media interview.
