Suspect killed and 12 others arrested after shootout
A group of armed suspects has been arrested. One suspect was killed. They were on their way to attack a jewelry store in a Pretoria mall. A multi-disciplinary police operation is the one that arrested them.
The joint team quickly acted on information from Crime Intelligence. Information about a criminal group from Johannesburg reportedly planning to hit a jewellery shop in one of the malls in Pretoria.
Tracker Connect, Badboyz Security, Protea Coin Chopper, Insurance Crime Bureau (ICB), Netcare 911, Tactical Operations Management Section (TOMS) of the Hawks at Head Office, SAPS Highway Patrol, Gauteng Traffic Police’s Saturation Unit, and Netcare 911 are all members of the resourceful team.
The information was taken and looked into and it was found that Chunkie Street in Mamelodi West is the hideout. Four cars with fake license plates were also seen at the place.
As they were leaving the area, they were seen in Maphalla Street close to Mamelodi Crossing mall.
One of the suspect was injured and killed in the shootout with the police. A gun was found on him. Four cars were taken for more examination, as well as three more guns that were found in two of the cars. A signal jammer device was put in one of the four cars, and their safe house also had on.
A total of 12 people aged from 26 to 58 were arrested. This is for murder, attempted murder, unlawful possession of jamming devices, conspiracy to do the crime, and having an illegal gun and bullets.
On Monday, 27 June 2022, they are expected to go to Mamelodi Magistrate’s Court.
A suspect should never do the following
The police did a good job in arresting and stopping the criminals. They did so with a limited number of deaths. Criminals should never start a shootout with the police when they are caught because it mostly ends in death for them. All of these people will be punished because crime does not pay.
