Maswanganyi comforts teary Vilakazi after heavy Kaizer Chiefs loss

Patrick Maswanganyi has reached out to the Amakhosi teenager who was upset after his team’s big loss last weekend.

Kaizer Chiefs were losing 3-0 against Mamelodi Sundowns in the Carling Knockout when Mfundo Vilakazi came on for Wandile Duba.

Unfortunately, he struggled like the rest of his teammates, especially after Inacio Miguel was sent off.

The Soweto Giants ended up losing 4-0, and the disappointed Chiefs players, including Vilakazi, walked back to the changing room.

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi praised coach Nasreddine Nabi for giving young players a chance, despite some criticism on social media from fans who felt the youngsters let the team down.

Agent Mike Makaab defended the young players, stating that the senior players didn’t perform well enough.

Orlando Pirates midfielder Patrick Maswanganyi showed his support for Vilakazi, posting on Instagram, “Kuzolunga njayam khululeka,” which means “It is going to be fine my brother, don’t stress.”

He added, “I love this young man; his passion and desire for Chiefs is exceptional. He will be fine. My message to him was that we learn more from our suffering than from our successes. His talent and determination will take him to the very top,” Makaab said on X.

The Amakhosi have several young players who will be relied on in upcoming matches.

The Glamour Boys are now out of the Carling Knockout and have been inconsistent in the Premier Soccer League, hoping to perform better in the Nedbank Cup.
