Nabi on Maart’s bench role and Blom’s fitness
Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi explained why he left captain Yusuf Maart out of the starting team for Saturday’s PSL match against SuperSport United.
Nabi said, “We believe that Yusuf Maart has been playing since the beginning of the league and in the cup games, so we thought today was a good game to rest him. We wanted to give Castillo a chance to start because he played well against (Mamelodi) Sundowns and did well in the last game against SuperSport.”
Regarding Njabulo Blom, Nabi noted, “It’s a matter of fitness, which has been improving since he arrived. You can see he is starting to pick up. He is a player we believe can help because of his experience.”
So far this season, Maart has played five games and scored one goal, while Blom has appeared three times in the league. Maart competes for his position with Castillo and can also play alongside Blom and Samkelo Zwane.
Chiefs have won two matches and lost two in their four games so far. With Castillo now injured, Maart is expected to return to the starting XI as he works to improve his performance.
Chiefs will look to get back to winning ways when they face in-form Magesi FC on Wednesday.
They recently suffered a disappointing 1-0 loss to SuperSport United, where Maart replaced the injured Castillo in the first half and Blom came on later in the match.
