Hunt praises SuperSport’s victory over Chiefs
Following their 1-0 win against Kaizer Chiefs in their Betway Premiership clash on Saturday evening, SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt praised his team.
Chiefs were considered favourites for the match after defeating SuperSport 4-0 in their Carling Knockout game last week, where Gaston Sirino, Yusuf Maart, Ranga Chivaviro, and Ashleigh du Preez all scored.
However, in the rematch, it was Hunt who was smiling.
“Last week we took the game to them and we got hurt,” Hunt told SuperSport TV after the match.
“They (Chiefs) didn’t play on Tuesday or Wednesday. Our legs were gone with all the travelling. Now we have another away game on Wednesday. We are trying to get everything we can out of the squad. I thought we were magnificent.”
Hunt also highlighted the performance of midfielder Siphesihle Ndlovu, saying, “Ndlovu was unbelievable; he has played three games in a week.”
“The whole team played well. We gave our all, we got the goal and I thought we were really good. Credit to the players with all the travelling. No one plays Chiefs twice and Pirates in a week.”
Meanwhile, Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi maintained that his side had dominated the match at Peter Mokaba Stadium.
He was correct in his assertion, as Chiefs had 65% possession and completed 462 passes compared to SuperSport’s 243.
Chiefs also boasted an 81% pass accuracy versus SuperSport’s 63%, and had 14 shots on goal compared to the hosts’ eight.
In fact, SuperSport’s only shot on target for the entire game resulted in the match-winner when Tashreeq Morris scored against the run of play just before half-time.
