2025 AFCON qualifiers: CAF to punish Libya?

CAF the governing body for African football has spoken out against the poor treatment of Nigeria’s Super Eagles in Libya.

After complaints on social media about how the Nigerian team was treated, many football fans across Africa are upset.

The Super Eagles were stranded for over 15 hours at an abandoned airport in Libya after their chartered flight arrived on Sunday.

Nigeria seem to be on the path to justice after mistreatment in Libya.

During this time, the players did not have access to basic things like food and water, which made the situation even worse.

The Nigerian team has now returned home and is leaving the issue to CAF’s Disciplinary Committee, hoping for quick action against those responsible for this unacceptable treatment.

CAF STATEMENT

CAF’s official statement:

“The Confederation Africaine de Football (CAF) has been in contact with the Libyan and Nigerian authorities after it had been informed that the Nigerian National Football Team (‘’Super Eagles’’) and their technical team were stranded in disturbing conditions for several hours at an airport that they were allegedly instructed to land by the Libyan authorities,”

“The matter has been referred to the CAF Disciplinary Board for investigation and appropriate action will be taken against those who violated the CAF Statutes and Regulations.”

What’s Next for Nigeria and Libya?

Nigeria is currently leading Group D with seven points after their recent 1-0 win over Libya in Uyo.

However, an unexpected boycott could threaten their campaign.

Libya is at the bottom of the group with only one point.

If CAF decides the match was forfeited, they might be awarded the points.
