Cassius Mailula’s crucial stop in South Africa before joining a new club

Cassius Mailula, the talented 23-year-old South African forward, is poised for a big career move that could reignite his footballing journey. After a challenging stint at Toronto FC in Major League Soccer, where he struggled to secure regular playing time, Mailula is now expected to don the jersey of a new club for the upcoming 2024/25 season. But before this next chapter begins, he is set to spend some time in South Africa.

According to soccer laduma, Mailula has agreed to terms with Morocco’s Wydad Athletic Club, where he will reunite with Rulani Mokwena, the coach under whom he thrived at Mamelodi Sundowns. This reunion is seen as a strategic move to help Mailula regain his form and possibly earn his way back into Bafana Bafana’s national squad.

As part of his journey to North Africa, Mailula is scheduled to stop in Mzansi this week. This brief visit is reportedly for the completion of important paperwork, which is essential before he can officially join Wydad Athletic Club. The Siya crew has confirmed these developments, sparking curiosity and anticipation among South African football fans, eager to see if this move will be the catalyst for Mailula’s resurgence on the international stage.

“It is all set, Cassius Mailula is on his way to Wydad. The two clubs and everyone involved have agreed on everything for the deal to happen and an official announcement should be made any time from now. He has already left Toronto and is on his way to Wydad but he will start in South Africa for some paperwork-related issues. He will be around here for a few days and then leave for Morocco where he is expected,” said the source.

As confirmed, Mailula isjoining Wydad on a one-year long loan deal. His contract with Toronto runs until 2026.
