44-year-old suspected vehicle smuggler arrested on his way to Zimbabwe

The Anti-Smuggling Task made a major breakthrough on August 5, 2024, when they arrested a 44-year-old male suspect in possession of a suspected stolen vehicle.

Authorities were alerted about a white Toyota Fortuner traveling from Gauteng province to Musina in the Vhembe District. Acting swiftly, the police initiated an investigation to locate the vehicle, which was seen driving along the N1 north public road near a farm outside Polokwane. Upon stopping the vehicle, which had one occupant, they investigated its origin.

The investigation revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen on July 31, 2024, in Wierdabrug, Pretoria, Gauteng province. Consequently, the 44-year-old suspect was arrested for possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

Preliminary findings suggested that the vehicle was intended to be smuggled into Zimbabwe through the Beitbridge border post. The suspect is set to appear before the Polokwane magistrate court soon, facing charges of possessing a stolen motor vehicle.

The police investigation is ongoing.
