Bloodbath at Orlando Pirates

Soweto giants Orlando Pirates are reportedly preparing to release a dozen players as the club undergoes a major squad overhaul. The Buccaneers are said to be looking to trim their squad size and make way for new signings.

According to a report by The South African, the players who could be shown the door include the likes of goalkeeper Siyabonga Mpontshane, defenders Kwanda Mngonyama and Paseka Mako, midfielders Siphesihle Ndlovu and Vincent Pule, and forwards Tshegofatso Mabasa and Zakhele Lepasa.

The mass exodus comes as Pirates look to rebuild their squad following a disappointing season in which they finished fifth in the DStv Premiership and failed to win any major trophies.

The release of so many players could be a sign that Pirates are looking to make a clean break from the past and start afresh.

The club has struggled for consistency in recent years and has been overshadowed by rivals Mamelodi Sundowns.

The departure of Mabasa and Lepasa would be particularly significant as they were both seen as key players for Pirates.

Mabasa is the club’s top scorer this season, while Lepasa has been a regular in the starting lineup for several years.

However, it is believed that Pirates coach Jose Riveiro is looking to bring in new players who fit his style of play.

The Spanish coach is known for favoring a high-pressing, attacking style of football.
