Sundowns feel offended by offer made for star player
Mamelodi Sundowns have made it clear that Bafana Bafana midfielder Teboho Mokoena is not available for transfer as they aim to secure his future with the club.
The reigning South African champions are determined to ward off interest from rivals, including Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, who have reportedly been eyeing the talented player.
In a recent development, an overseas club made an offer for the 26-year-old star, but Sundowns swiftly rejected the proposal without even considering it.
A source close to the negotiations highlighted the club’s stance, stating, “It was not a great offer, but Sundowns would not even consider it. At least (you should) look at it.”
With Mokoena’s contract set to expire in June 2025, discussions for a new deal have hit a roadblock. Sundowns’ sporting director, Flemming Berg, is focused on retaining key players like Mokoena to bolster the team’s prospects in continental competitions.
Mokoena’s agent, Glyn Binkin, emphasized the sensitivity of the ongoing negotiations, noting, “Negotiations were at a very delicate stage currently, and I would not want to prejudice such discussions at this moment.”
