Tender dispute leads to murder

An ongoing alleged targeted sabotage of a company contracted for the multimillion-rand M4 upgrade near Westbrook in Durban has taken a deadly turn, with the fatal shooting of a worker at the construction site.

Thulasizwe Ntuli tragically lost his life on Thursday night while on duty, guarding the company site responsible for the construction on the M4 north between Westbrook and Boys Town.

The road in question had been closed due to damage caused by floods, prompting the South African National Roads Agency Limited (Sanral) to appoint Thelbridge Enterprise (PTY) Ltd in October 2023 to restore and upgrade the M4.

However, the progress of the construction project has been marred by a series of alleged acts of sabotage targeting the company and its workers.

Ntuli’s untimely death has sent shockwaves through the construction industry and the local community, highlighting the dangerous challenges faced by those involved in infrastructure projects.

The shooting has raised concerns about the safety and security of workers on construction sites, as well as the need for heightened vigilance against criminal activities that threaten the progress of vital infrastructure projects.
