Tennis star Sabalenka’s boyfriend commits suicide by throwing himself off balcony

The sporting world was left in shock following the tragic death of Konstantin Koltsov, boyfriend of tennis star Aryna Sabalenka, in what local police have described as an ‘apparent suicide’.

Koltsov, a professional hockey player who represented Belarus at the Winter Olympics on two occasions, had been in a relationship with Sabalenka for around three years.

The devastating news of Koltsov’s passing was confirmed on Tuesday morning, prompting an outpouring of condolences from the sports community.

Local authorities in Miami, where the incident occurred, have stated that Koltsov died after jumping from a balcony, with no indication of foul play in relation to the circumstances surrounding his death.

Miami-Dade police detective Argemis Colome provided further details on the tragic event, stating, “According to investigators on Monday, March 18, 2024, at approximately 12.39am, Bal Harbour Police and Fire Rescue were dispatched to the St. Regis Bal Harbour Resort, 9703 Collins Avenue, in reference to a male that jumped from a balcony. The Miami-Dade Police Department, Homicide Bureau, responded and has taken over the investigation of the apparent suicide of Mr. Konstantin Koltsov. No foul play is suspected.”
