Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula is close to being arrested – Report

Speaker of Parliament Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula is facing serious allegations of corruption as investigations into her conduct during her tenure as defence minister unfold.

The revelation that she may have solicited and received over R2.3m in cash bribes has sent shockwaves through the political landscape.

The Investigating Directorate (ID) is currently conducting a thorough probe into the allegations against Mapisa-Nqakula, focusing on 10 separate transactions that took place between November 2016 and July 2017.

The cash is said to have been paid by a defence contractor who had secured significant contracts from the department of defence.

In a surprising turn of events, the contractor, Nombasa Ntsondwa-Ndhlovu, has reportedly agreed to cooperate with the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) as a witness against the speaker.

This development hints at a potential immunity deal in exchange for her testimony.

The ID, a specialized unit within the NPA dedicated to combating corruption, has completed a six-month investigation into Mapisa-Nqakula and is now poised to make an arrest.

However, political considerations have reportedly delayed the arrest, with concerns about timing and optics coming into play.

UDM leader Bantu Holomisa, who lodged the initial complaint against Mapisa-Nqakula, has been vocal about the need for accountability in this matter.

He revealed that a planned arrest earlier this year was postponed to avoid overshadowing the ruling party’s January 8 statement.
