G4S Officials at Thabo Bester prison jump ship amid sex ring and drug trafficking probe
The Thabo Bester scandal continues. According to an internal observation report, seven officials from G4S, facing an investigation, have opted to resign, while an additional five have been suspended, and one has been dismissed.
These actions come amidst scrutiny over alleged improper dealings with inmates at Mangaung Correctional Centre, where Thabo Bester made his grand escape.
According to SundayWorld, the report paints a disturbing picture of the facility, suggesting the existence of syndicates involving both departmental and G4S officials.
G4S improper dealings
Shockingly, the report alleges the presence of a sex ring, with female staff allegedly providing sexual services to inmates for fees ranging from R1,000 to R1,500 per encounter.
Additionally, the report highlights drug trafficking within the facility, particularly the sale of dagga, described as a lucrative commodity in high demand.
The observation report, focusing on events from May 22-25, 2023, implicates G4S intelligence officers in the syndicate activities at the Mangaung Correctional Centre. Seven officers are specifically named for their alleged involvement in drug syndicates and sex trafficking, further underscoring the severity of the situation.
Mangaung Correctional Centre, managed by multinational security firm G4S for a monthly fee of R44 million, and Kutama Sinthumule Correctional Facility in Makhado, Limpopo, are the only two private prisons in the country. Kutama Sinthumule, previously plagued by inmate unrest, is currently undergoing renovations.
