Gunmen kill councillor before shooting at a taxi and killing 2 children

KwaZulu-Natal police have launched a manhunt for suspects involved in the brutal killing of an Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) ward councillor and two innocent schoolchildren.

The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon when the councillor was ambushed while attending to a broken-down vehicle on the R618.

According to National police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, the councillor was shot multiple times by a group of armed men who stopped next to his vehicle.

Sadly, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The suspects then proceeded to open fire on a passing scholar transport taxi, injuring four children. Tragically, two of the children, aged 11 and 12, lost their lives.

In response to the incident, all available resources, including the National Task Team responsible for investigating political killings, have been allocated to the case.

General Masemola, who heads the National Task Team, has assured the community of Nongoma that the police are working tirelessly to trace and apprehend those responsible for this heinous attack.
