Details of the murder and investigation revealed

The victim, Farai Ndebele, was shot dead in Soshanguve, Tshwane, in what was later revealed to be a cold-blooded murder plotted by his wife of 25 years, Marriod Ndebele, her 62-year-old boyfriend, Tlowaye Monyai, and CPF member Tshepo Frans Kekana.

The couple shared two children during their lengthy marriage.

Marriod was also involved in a love relationship with Monyai. On June 14, 2019, Marriod Ndebele arranged with her boyfriend’s grandson Koketso Piet Monyai, 24, who is already sentenced in this matter, and Kekana to kill her husband.”

“Thereafter, Marriod instructed them to take some of her husband’s belongings to stage a robbery.”

“The boyfriend drove Koketso Piet Monyai and Kekana to the Ndebeles house, where they shot and killed the husband, Farai.”

“After the assailants had left, Marriod reported the matter to the police.”

In the sentencing, Marriod received life imprisonment along with additional sentences for unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of unlawful ammunition, and robbery with aggravating circumstances

In court, the accused all pleaded not guilty to the charges.

“However, Kekana pleaded guilty to the charge of robbery with aggravating circumstances.”

“He committed the offence while out of prison, on probation after he was convicted and sentenced for rape and robbery.”

“The prosecutor Ronnie Sibanda told the court that there was no justification for Marriod to kill her husband, and that she was motivated by the jealousy of her boyfriend…”

“The prosecutor said the 62-year-old planned the crime, brought all the participants together and fetched the assailants after the gruesome murder.” – Lumka Mahanjana, NPA Gauteng regional spokesperson

Kekana, the CPF member, received life imprisonment for the murder, along with additional sentences for firearm and ammunition-related charges and robbery with aggravating circumstances.

Monyai, the mastermind, received a life sentence for murder.

The court rejected requests for leniency, highlighting the lack of remorse displayed by the perpetrators.

The judge emphasised that everyone has the right to life and underscored the court’s mandate to protect that right.

Sibongile Mzinyathi, the Director of Public Prosecutions in Gauteng, commended the investigating officer, Sergeant Peter Mafako Madau, for his dedication, which played a crucial role in securing the conviction and subsequent life sentences for the trio.
