Security guards worried about security in an unusual situation
Security guards from Pretoria are deeply concerned about their job security.
“We have been working for years on contract basis. We deserve job security and benefits like any other employee. We are tired of being treated as disposable workers,” he said.
Other security guards expressed their concerns about the possibility of losing their jobs.
“I have been working as a security guard for over 10 years. This is the only job I know. If I lose it, I don’t know how I will provide for my family,” said one guard.
Another guard echoed the sentiment, saying, “We have bills to pay and mouths to feed. We can’t afford to be without work.”
The security guards also raised concerns about the safety of the buildings they protect in the event of retrenchments.
“If there are fewer security officers, it will be easier for criminals to target these buildings. Our job is not just about protecting property, but also the people inside,” said one guard.
The group of security guards vowed to continue fighting for their rights and the future of their employment.
“We will not back down until our voices are heard and our demands are met. We deserve to be treated with dignity and respect,” said Thabang.
The security guards are now awaiting the outcome of the discussions between security management and city representatives.
