Tunisia Coach Jalel Kadri Resigns Following Bafana Bafana Clash

In a surprising turn of events, Tunisia’s head coach, Jalel Kadri, has confirmed his resignation after his team’s goalless draw against Bafana Bafana led to their elimination from the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The unexpected departure comes as a response to Tunisia’s failure to secure a win, which was crucial for advancing to the knockout stages of the tournament.

Tunisia’s hopes of progressing to the AFCON knockout stages were dashed after they played to a 0-0 draw against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana.

The draw secured Bafana Bafana’s second-place finish in Group E, while Tunisia’s two points were insufficient to secure advancement.

Tough Journey for Tunisia

Tunisia’s AFCON campaign faced early challenges with an opening defeat to Mali, followed by a 1-1 draw against the same opponent.

The goalless draw against South Africa ultimately proved to be the final blow, leading to Kadri’s decision to step down.

Following the disappointing result, Kadri initially addressed the media, expressing regret for the team’s performance and apologizing to the Tunisian people.

Kadri acknowledged the unpredictable nature of football, stating, “We apologise to the Tunisian people.”

“Football is like this at times. We were not lucky against Bafana.”

Despite the disappointment, Kadri initially mentioned having an existing contract and hinted at discussions with higher authorities post-tournament.

“I have answered this question [about resigning] before.

“I have a contract, and after AFCON, a decision will be made,” he stated in the press conference.

However, within minutes of making these statements, Kadri informed beINSPORTS that he had, in fact, resigned from his role as Tunisia’s head coach.
