Jordan Henderson (33) Completes Surprise Move from Al-Ettifaq to Ajax
Former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has landed in Amsterdam to finalize his move from Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq to Dutch giants Ajax.
The 33-year-old midfielder’s arrival in the Netherlands marks the beginning of what is reported to be a two-and-a-half-year deal, following the termination of his contract with Al-Ettifaq.

Henderson was seen arriving at Schiphol Airport and subsequently being driven away by Ajax’s general manager, Herman Pinkster.
The move comes after Henderson agreed to terminate his contract with Al-Ettifaq, just six months after joining the Saudi Arabian club.
Speaking on the historic transfer, Ajax’s caretaker coach, John van ‘t Schip, confirmed the ongoing discussions, stating:
“I can confirm the club and Henderson are talking. He has to deal with his club now.”
Despite the excitement surrounding Henderson’s move, there are hurdles to overcome.
As a non-EU national, Henderson’s work permit is expected to take up to two weeks for approval, making him unlikely to feature in Ajax’s clash against RKC Waalwijk on Sunday.
Nevertheless, the former Liverpool captain’s anticipation for his Ajax debut on January 27 against Heracles remains high.
The transfer involves Henderson taking a substantial cut from his reported £350,000-a-week wages in Saudi Arabia.
However, a surprising revelation emerges as The Telegraph reports that Henderson has not received any payment of his wages in the last six months, having postponed them.
Sources suggest there’s a belief that Henderson might never receive the owed amount.
The postponement, reportedly for tax reasons, aimed at maintaining his non-resident status in the UK.

Ajax, having expressed interest in Henderson for the past 10 days, emerged as front-runners in securing the midfielder’s signature.
The Dutch giants have significantly improved under caretaker coach John van ‘t Schip, recording seven wins and two draws in the Eredivisie since his appointment.
Ajax’s pursuit of Henderson reflects their commitment to improving the squad and making strides in domestic and European competitions.
