6 Foreign nationals arrested on en route to sell stolen property
On Wednesday, April 24, 2024, six foreign nationals, aged between 25 and 39, were arrested in the Mopani District for possessing stolen property valued at thousands of rands.
The suspects were caught during an intelligence-driven operation in the Modjadjiskloof policing area. This operation was initiated due to a series of business burglaries that occurred from Tuesday, April 16, to Tuesday, April 23, 2024.
Authorities received information about a group of foreign male nationals possessing suspected stolen property stored in four different locations in Modjadjiskloof.
Initial investigations indicated that the suspects were allegedly planning to move the stolen property to the Giyani policing area to sell it to a buyer.
The Mopani District Task Team and Modjadjiskloof Crime Prevention unit acted on the information and located the suspects.
The suspects were found standing on the roadside in Modjadjiskloof with the stolen goods, waiting for transport to deliver them to the Giyani precinct. When questioned about the origin of the properties, they failed to provide satisfactory answers and were immediately arrested.
The police confiscated stolen property valued at over R60,000 from the suspects during the arrest, including:
- Three Bush cutters
- One solar battery with a small inverter
- Two plasma TVs and one computer screen
- Two Husqvarna chainsaws
- One Ryobi generator
- One HP laptop
- One welding machine with a Thermamax inverter
- One compressor
The suspects, consisting of one Mozambican and five Zimbabwean nationals, are scheduled to appear in Modjadjiskloof Regional Court on Friday, April 26, 2024, to face charges of possession of stolen property.
The police investigation is ongoing.
