20-year-old man arrested for kidnapping 15-year-old girlfriend

The South African Police Service (SAPS) Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offenses Unit arrested a 20-year-old suspect after a kidnapping incident. On April 7th, 2024, at around 16:00.

A 15-year-old girl left her home in Zone 1 Thaba Nchu to attend a Women’s Care workshop in Phelindaba. When she didn’t return home by 20:00, her worried mother tried calling her cellphone without success.

The next day, April 8th, 2024, at around 07:00, the mother received a call from an unknown male using her daughter’s cellphone, demanding ransom for her release.

The distressed mother immediately reported the incident at Selosesha police station, leading to the opening of a kidnapping case.

Selosesha’s Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offenses Unit took charge of the investigation, tracing and finding the victim at her boyfriend’s residence.

The 20-year-old boyfriend was arrested for kidnapping and is scheduled to appear in the Selosesha Magistrate Court soon.
