12 Alex mass shooters ages shock community

Most residents of Alexandra arrived at the nearby magistrate’s court and were shocked to see the 12 men arrested in connection with the tragic shootings that had shook the area.

After the men’s brief visit, Lizzy Sithole, a community leader in Alexandra, told TimesLIVE, “I didn’t believe that we could be terrorized by local youth.”

“I assumed foreigners were responsible for this. Not South African kids,” Sithole said.

The 12 men’s ages are from 18 to 25.

Thubelihle Sibiya, Andile Chonco, Siyabulela Myeni, Goodman Mduduzi Nene, Nkokhelo Chonco, Khanyile Bongani Nceba, Lindokuhle Dludla, Sphelele Khanyile, Nkazi Mbatha, Ziphezinhle Mncwango, and Dumisani Sithole were among the 11 culprits.

“We are disappointed that young people have committed the killings. They are still children and they are young. All of them need to be going to class instead of killing people, according to Sithole.

The hands of these kids are stained with blood. We thought that older people would be responsible for such serious crimes.

Sithole reported that the community was angered by the recent terrible crimes that had occurred there. The most recent of which resulted in the death of Joshua Mbatha, a well-known Alex FM broadcaster, and music compiler.

He was killed by the 12 accused

The 32-year-old was fatally shot when he was out for a stroll with two friends. This is when they were attacked and robbed of their shoes and phones. Mbatha was shot in the chest by the thieves after they had already robbed them.

“In our own homes, we’ve been living like prisoners. These gangs that have been terrorizing us prevent us from being able to walk freely on the streets.”

She said the wish of the community is that the accused would not be released on bail.

The 12 are accused of robbery, possession of the stolen property, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, attempted murder, and murder.

Security was increased in the courtroom during their appearance as protesters from the community demonstrated outside.
